Dr. Zhiyu Zhang (Zack) first came to the United States in 1999 to pursue his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry. He conducted his graduate study at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and University of Munich, Germany, followed by postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University and Harvard University. He also has research experience with 2 companies in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Zhang has one patent and twenty peer-reviewed publications in organic chemistry journals and the majority of his research was focused on anti-cancer lead compounds.

Ironically, Dr. Zhang was diagnosed with cancer himself in 2010. The particular type of cancer he had is known for its notoriously high recurrence rate. After going through surgery and chemotherapy, Dr. Zhang decided to quit chemistry as he believed that exposure to suspicious cancer-inducing chemicals and immune-suppressants in the organic laboratory had a lot to do with his cancer. Meanwhile, he began his journey of natural healing art.  He studied therapeutic massage at Cortiva Institute and later graduated with a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from New England School of Acupuncture (NESA). Currently he is a Licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist and Massage Therapist of Massachusetts and maintains Above and Beyond Acupuncture Wellness Center in Stoneham and Brighton, MA.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are familiar subjects to all Chinese in general and Dr. Zhang in particular.  He was born to and raised by parents who were not only professors of the top university of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) but also practiced TCM for their whole lives.  In 1962, his parents were among the first graduates from Beijing University of TCM where they later became professors and practiced TCM until retirement.  Dr. Zhang’s father was the founder and the first Dean of the Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion (艾灸).  His mother was the Director of the Teaching and Research Section of Shang Han Lun.  Her contribution has earned her the title of Capital TCM Grand Master (首都国医名师) in 2013 and National TCM Grand Master of China in 2017.  Both titles were granted by the Chinese government.  Between the two of them, Dr. Zhang’s parents published more than 30 books and 150 peer-reviewed articles on TCM individually or jointly.  Growing up, not only has Zack personally benefited from TCM but he also had the opportunities to learn from his parents in the clinic, especially after he began his own TCM journey in 2010.

Dr. Zhang has read numerous literature about cancer and its causes, both in English and Chinese, to find the answer why someone, including himself, would become a cancer patient at relatively a young age.  Inspired by his studies and person experiences, Dr. Zhang wanted to create a cancer support website or organization to help other patients gain better cancer-preventive knowledge since 2010. Today, as both a cancer survivor and a TCM practitioner, Dr. Zhang is excited to share his collection of resources to help not only cancer patients but also those looking for preventative care. He is pleased to present   Hence www.saynotocancer.net is finally here.

Graduating from Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a Master degree of TCM in 1998, Bing Yang became an assistant professor at the same university and began to practice at the affiliated clinic as a M.D. in China. In 2001 she relocated to U.S. and passed the NCCAOM test. She became a licensed acupuncturist of Pennsylvania and practiced at the Jefferson Pain & Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh. After relocating to Boston in 2006, she started teaching at the NESA and practicing in Boston area. Now she is serving as the Chairperson of the Department of Chinese herbal medicine at NESA while maintaining a private clinic in Brighton, MA. She published 1 book and 17 peer-reviewed articles. With the integration of Chinese herbal and Acupuncture, she specializes in the treatment of internal, gynecology and pediatrics diseases.
